Watchers

I was pleasantly surprised to find my new webcomic "Norse: Dawn of the Shield Maiden" included in the "Best Webcomics Ever" section at comicsalliance.com for the week of February 19th.

Since the comic is extremely NSFW, its inclusion ignited a bit of a debate in the comments section, mind you, but it's very encouraging nonetheless.

Here's the article:

Needless to say, it made my day!

Love your work. Found your deviantart page from your web comic. Great colors and anatomy (wink wink). I also like that your Norse story has a little more depth to it so far.

Thank you. Glad you're enjoying the webcomic. I like that I can take my time with the narrative (and the naughty scenes.) Fans seem to enjoy it a lot, which is very cool.

I was on holiday recently so I skipped a few Mondays but the next page will be up on the 14th. It's gonna be a good one. ;)

James,

My first visit to this gallery, and there was lots to admire and enjoy. I'm very into your drawing style. It full of facial details that many other hand-drawing artists don't take advantage of. I was particularly struck by "Asylum," since there was a lot of iconography--much of which I couldn't quite make sense of. But the scene was astounding and reached out to grab me. Very nice work. Will we be seeing more?

Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you found the gallery and enjoyed your visit.

I will be adding more images soon (ish).

In the meantime, you can check out my free webcomic "Norse" at the following link.

I updated it with a new page yesterday.

James, I would like to talk about your Norse Webcomic page 14. Right away, I found this comic to be a very eye popping experience. I mean, really eyes were popping out of people's heads And then it appeared that they had been killed by Abraham Lincoln's shadow, which confused me a bit, but considering his anti-slavery stance this makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Then the girl says she doesn't mind being a slave or being killed but if she is to be killed she would like it to have it happen quickly. I feel this line should be revised to "Oh my god, you just put a sword through someone's head, please for the love of god get me out of here!" And, here you can have various screaming, like AAAAAAA! Or EYAAAAAA! or WAAAAAAAAHHH That would be the normal reaction I think, but, you know, considering how weird the character have been acting in this scene, maybe I'm wrong. I think maybe this reaction fits with what she has already done, and she's very accepting of this horrible man stabbing through people's heads, because after all she goes to churches to have relations with men during non-business hours.

I hope my feedback helped.

Yep, I'm a Canuck, born and raised.

I took a look at your gallery and even though I'm not a fan of comics in the Manga, Anime, or Hentai styles, I can tell you're definitely talented and you have a good eye for layouts and action sequences.

Good work.

I don't believe Hentai is a style...... :lmao: It's a form of pron related to the first two.

Thanks for that answer James. Well I hope you'll enjoy the stories just the same.

I've got to say I've read your webcomic and it's a bit dicey, their church is certainly strange, the characters are all very strange, like that lady in the first sequence for example, she was there just to die? She looked a lot like Stacey. I suppose she could just be a werewolf now, I'm not sure I like the idea of a lady werewolf, should I be afraid or happy to see that coming through a window? Well I guess anything coming through a window is quite bad. Unless it's Stacey. Although horrible things do tend to happen around her.

But that church scene has the characters all acting bizarrely, we don't know anyone here well enough to understand them before it devolved into a lot of strangeness, I suppose you can write it however you wish, but I'm not sure this turn of events really invites viewers in, unless they like to be hit with whips, or hitting people with whips, I don't suppose that is a large percentage of the population that hits people with whips, or they'd be more common I think. I could be wrong on that.

Your works are your own though, please don't see this as a critique, I'm not one to judge other's works. This was merely my impressions upon reading it.

The 3-page prologue with the Norse lady actually does serve a purpose beyond the woman's demise. The scene sets the stage for events which will occur later on in the story and will impact the two lead characters (one of which is to be introduced on Monday, incidentally.)

As for the characters acting bizarrely, all I can say is the Iron Age was a strange time. ;)

And as for your take on the whipping scene, I can't really comment as I don't know what each reader takes away from it, but so far I haven't seen any sign that it's a turn off for viewers. By the way, I'm not always trying to draw images that excite the viewers, I like to shock and surprise them as well and my approach to Norse is one where I will not shy away from those scenes, sexual or otherwise.

Admittedly, "Norse" certainly isn't for everyone. ;)

Thanks for the comments.

Hey, I love your work. I looked through some of your blog too and noticed that you really get your pencils *clean*. Is that from inking them digitally?
